One of our favorite past X Factor finalists, Diana Vickers, goes for a circus-inspired video ensemble in her latest single, My Wicked Heart, which is about one-night stands and sexual attraction. It's a quirky little number, with brass sections, odd pauses, and as per usual, Diana's raspy, 'stumbly' voice. My Wicked Heart is set for release on October 17th and will aid in the re-release of her #1 debut album, Songs from the Tainted Cherry Tree. Watch the video on YouTube here.
It's been a while since my last wrap-up post, so let's dust off the cobwebs and get on with it...
One of my favorite UK girlbands The Saturdays will be releasing a new single called Missing You on the 9th of August, and they've given us a peek at the lovely single cover. Nice to see the girls are starting to bring back the old logo and the colour scheme! Missing You will be one of the six new tracks on the upcoming EP release including Forever Is Over and Ego.

SOUND THE ALARMS. The band that I've stuck with since Songs About Jane is getting ready to rule the music scene with their upcoming third album entitled Hands All Over. Maroon 5 will be releasing the first single, Misery, this June 21st so mark your calendars! The music video is also proving to be quite 'steamy' with the aid of frontman Adam Levine's girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna, who joined in for a lot of sexy scenes on the streets of LA. See them here.
After giving us quite the toothache and dominating the Billboard chart with California Gurls, Katy Perry reveals that the second single off her upcoming album Teenage Dream will be none other than the title track itself. The album will be released on the 24th of August.

The Boy Who Murdered Love is one of the standout tracks in Diana Vickers' #1 debut album Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree and like its predecessor Once, it's an upbeat pop/rock anthem with "amazing verses" and an "even more amazing chorus" (oh look who's quoting herself again). The video is pleasantly colourful and adorable, and MUCH better than Once.
SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR. This lovely lady has been around the music industry for nine years now, and that's after she disbanded with theaudience (for Pete's sake all I knew back then was Steps). She's had three commendable albums, and now working on her fourth called Straight to the Heart, which features Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer) with Freemasons, and her current single Bittersweet (whose video I have broken into itty bitty pieces here). Have a listen to the amazing track.
DIANA VICKERS. Oh, the claw. THE CLAW. To those who remember D's signature move back when she was in The X Factor in 2008, well... those days are over! Even if the hype over her #1 debut single Once and album Songs from the Tainted Cherry Tree hasn't subsided, Diana is already working on her second (soon to be smash) single, The Boy Who Murdered Love. I've praised the track enough, so I'll let you be the judge.
SKY FERREIRA. Ridiculously blunt. Atrociously infectious. Definitely one to watch. Disregard all the buzz you've heard about Sky being some sort of Ke$ha clone, because she is NOT. Please, this girl can actually sing her arse off (as I've said countless times), 17 is one damn good song, and I got to do a Q&A with her. She hates mayonnaise too, which is a plus for me.
PLAN B. Rapper turned soul singer Ben Drew made quite an impact with The Defamation of Strickland Banks, a concept album based on the decline of "a soul man" and his experiences in prison. The album debuted at #1 on the UK charts, and both his singles Stay Too Long and She Said have hit the top ten. He was labeled as "the male Amy Winehouse", and it suits him pretty well.
DELPHIC. Placing third on the BBC Sound of 2010 poll, these lads from Manchester pack quite a tune in their alternative dance LP, Acolyte. The combo of their fast-paced drumming, guitar riffs, and electrosynth dabbles makes one very interesting and brilliant record praised by many a critic. Doubt is one of the standout tracks of the album, being radio-friendly while still keeping a certain distinction (and class) from the generic mainstream songs forced down our throats by evil DJs.
TWO new entries have slipped into the top five this week in the UK singles chart, but before we get in to that, Grime music collective Roll Deep have held on to the #1 spot with Good Times. The highest new entry this week is from Aussie rock band Pendulum with Watercolor at #4. Following suit are Aggro Santos and Kimberly Wyatt of Pussycat Dolls fame with their wildly infectious club banger Candy. Moving up four places from #10 is Dirty Picture by Taio Cruz and Ke$ha.
Though Once is down four spots to #8, Diana Vickers has something to celebrate because Songs from the Tainted Cherry Tree debuted at #1 on the albums chart, holding off Plan B. AC/DC held on to #3, while Usher and Raymond V Raymond drop two to #4.

Diana Vickers has come a long way since the X Factor back in 2008. We all knew her as the girl with the unique voice and a dangerous claw. About a year after losing to Eoghan Quigg, JLS, and Alexandra Burke, Diana Vickers signed to RCA and began building the foundations of Songs from the Tainted Cherry Tree. While working on her album, Diana also starred in West End's revival of a 1992 play, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, which bagged her the London Newcomer award at the Theatregoers' Choice Awards.
The album opens with #1 debut single Once, which is obviously a great start with its rich fusion of electropop and rock. To be completely honest, I was dumbfounded when I first heard the single, and I doubted if Miss Vickers could pull of the whole pop/rock genre, but when Once gets to the chorus, it just EXPLODES with the Cathy Dennis trademark repetition without being unnecessary. Then comes the Ellie Goulding co-written track, Remake Me & You, and for the more tedious listeners out there, there's a subtle hint of Ellie in the verses' line pausing. The Boy Who Murdered Love is very similar to the first two tracks, which is all the more reason why it's brilliant. It goes from amazing verses, to an even more amazing chorus, and, like Once, it's upbeat and fits into the pop/rock genre.
Just when I thought the LP couldn't get any more upbeat, Diana pulls out a beautiful, heartwrenching, acoustic-led Four Leaf Clover that is equally good in terms of quality to the previous tracks. Put It Back Together Again follows suit, this time piano-driven, and showcases Diana's vocal range. The album takes to a lighter tune with You'll Never Get To Heaven, which is a welcome change from the emotional ballads. Me & You is most probably the cheesiest song, lyrically speaking, in the LP. I can't get past the "It's me and you, stuck like glue" bits.
UPDATE 2: Telephone producer Darkchild has confirmed that it was indeed an unmixed, unmastered version of the song sang by Britney.
UPDATE: GimmeBRITNEY (Britney's official Australian fansite) said earlier today, "gimmeBRITNEY has asked Sony Music HQ and they’re really not all that worried, telling us that it’s not Britney – which would explain why numerous links to the song on YouTube and social networking sites have remained active for hours now." via The Beat Review
UK CHART TIME! The guys at Roll Deep kick Diana Vickers off the top spot with a new entry, Good Times, and Once slips to #4. Plan B rises to #3 with She Said, and Usher is a non-mover at #2 with OMG. Alexandra Burke enters the chart at #34 with All Night Long, and its video has reportedly been banned from MTV.
On the albums chart, Plan B is looking good at #1, preventing Usher to make a top debut for Raymond V Raymond. The Glee cast also makes their debut at #4 with The Power of Madonna, and Bullet for My Valentine follows with Fever.
